One Body – Many parts

1 Corinthians 12:12-27 One body but many parts
Welcome to this my 2nd attempt at writing a blog of our journey. We have been going now for 12 weeks. The response to what we are doing and discussions around our long-term vision have been well received. The creation of a supportive community amongst our customers seems to be developing without any great input from us and that is down to the amazing people who come along on a Friday and be part of what we are starting.
Our biggest learning curve over the last few weeks has been the team of volunteers coming together and learning about each other. Starting a new venture and learning week on week what works and what doesn’t whilst ensuring the customers get the best is challenging enough, but adding the getting to know each other to the mix has proved the biggest challenge for us all. As individuals, we have all responded to the learning of the ropes and dealt with the difficulties of embarking on something so new in different ways. We as a team of volunteers all have different strengths and limitations. We all have something to offer but there has been friction and frustrations as we have been learning about the differing abilities and limitations of each other as individuals and as a team collectively. It takes time to establish where we as individuals fit and the roles and functions that are required to make the dream work and which we are best aligned to. We have at times lacked tolerance and patience with other team members who we saw as a possible weak link as they couldn’t do what we do but what we failed to recognise was that we need others who can’t and don’t do what we do. We need to be different to form an effective team with a range of skills and competencies. Individually we all make sacrifices each week to make a Friday happen and at times we find it hard, exhausting and have recently been irritable with each other. However remain united in the long term dream and our greatest strength in our belief in what we believe we can build and the values which forms its foundations. I had always anticipated that there was a lot to learn in our journey but maybe hadn’t considered the lessons learnt over recent weeks with regards to truly valuing the difference others bring to a team and that without the contribution of all the dream will always be just that – A DREAM!
